Meet at Settle Station 9.30 a.m.,

return 5.15 p.m.

Take a summer trip over the most scenic railway in England, and visit our sister museum, housed in historic Carlisle Castle.

The 1st, 2nd, and 4th Battalions of The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment receive their colours at a full Regimental parade at Fulwood Barracks

"ANZIO / CASSINO" - STUDY EVENING / PRESENTATION & ADVANCE BATTLEFIELD TOUR INFORMATION EVENING

7.00 p.m.

The evening will examine the grinding Cassino campaign and associated Anzio landings, the subjects of this year’s annual Friends Battlefield Tour to Italy.

Those travelling on the Battlefield Tour are encouraged to attend. The evening will also include a short tour briefing. However, those not living close to Preston are advised that attendance is not essential.

"ITALY ROSE 2008" - FRIENDS ANNUAL BATTLEFIELD TOUR

The 1944 attempt to outflank the determined and effective German defence of Italy at Anzio was a bold stroke which turned to near disaster.  The  tour will examine the role of 1st Loyals, for whom Anzio was a major battle honour , and also visit the nearby battlefield of Cassino where the Lancashire Fusiliers won their only VC of WWII.

The tour will also enjoy the glories of Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Vesuvius and perhaps Capri.

BATTLEFIELD TRUST

GREAT WAR STUDY DAY

This promises to be a unique and fascinating event for all students of the Western Front 1914-18. Papers on British and German infantry tactics; Great War Archaeology; Chemical Warfare 1914-18, plus open debates and discussions.

Places must be booked by sending a cheque for £17.50, made out to 'The Battlefield Trust', to Paddy Griffith, 41 Burlington Rd, Manchester M20 4QA. Profits to the Battlefield Trust and the Museum.
